About The Event

MJ Tyson is an artist based in Hoboken, NJ. MJ's work is centered on the relationship between people and their possessions, and makes use of unconventional metal casting, re-use, and record keeping. She has dabbled in the fields of museum conservation and art appraisal, which have influenced her work. MJ has a BFA and MFA in Jewelry + Metalsmithing from Rhode Island School of Design. She has been an artist in residence at The Studios at MASS MoCA, Vermont Studio Center, and the Wormfarm Institute.

This spring MJ is participating in Non-Stick Nostalgia; Y2K Retrofuturism in Contemporary Jewelry, at Museum of Arts and Design in New York and 40 Under 40: The Next Generation of American Metal Artists at The Metal Museum in Memphis.

2018 exhibitions include Transformation 10: Contemporary Works in Found Materials at Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh, RE:FORMATION, at Gallery Madison Park, in New York, and Tiny Acts Topple Empires, at the Woskob Family Gallery at Penn State.
